What to Expect at Long Island Mental Health and Wellness

At Long Island Mental Health and Wellness, we believe that clarity and collaboration are key to effective care. Here’s what you can expect when starting services with us:

Child & Adolescent Therapy

We take a team-based, family-focused approach to working with children and teens.

  • The Intake Appointment: The first session is with the parent(s) or caregiver(s) only. This allows us to gather a comprehensive history, understand your concerns, and collaborate on a treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs.
  • Ongoing Treatment

– Therapy is personalized and developmentally appropriate.

– Parents are actively involved throughout the process.

– Some sessions may include parents, others may be with the child or teen individually, depending on the treatment plan.

– We work closely with other professionals involved in your child’s care (such as teachers, pediatricians, or specialists) to ensure a consistent and supportive approach.

Adult Therapy

We offer a safe and collaborative space for adults seeking support and growth.

  • First Session: You’ll work with your therapist to discuss the concerns that brought you in, explore relevant history, and begin identifying goals for therapy.
  • Ongoing Therapy: Sessions are guided by your goals and may focus on current challenges, deeper patterns, or skill-building—depending on your needs and preferences.
  • Psychological & Psychoeducational Assessments: Comprehensive assessments help us better understand thinking, learning, behavior, and emotions to support diagnosis, educational planning, or treatment recommendations.

What to Expect

The assessment process typically involves 3–4 appointments:

  1. Initial Interview: A detailed history and review of concerns. We’ll also outline the assessment plan and answer any questions.
  2. Testing Sessions: Standardized tests are administered to gather data on cognitive, emotional, academic, and/or behavioral functioning.
  3. Feedback Session: Once testing is complete, we’ll meet to review the results, discuss recommendations, and answer questions.
  4. Written Report: A comprehensive report summarizing the findings and recommendations will be provided following the feedback session.

We’re here to support you every step of the way. If you have questions about any part of the process, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help.
