Position Type: Predoctoral Clinical Psychology Externship
Program Overview:
Long Island Mental Health & Wellness (LIMHW) is an outpatient group psychology practice serving children, adolescents, adults, and families across Long Island. LIMHW offers a predoctoral externship designed to provide broad-based clinical training in psychotherapy, group work, family systems, and psychological assessment within a supportive, collaborative training environment. Training emphasizes developmentally informed, evidence-based, and neurodiversity-affirming care, with a strong focus on supervision, case conceptualization, and professional identity development. Caseloads are developed gradually and aligned with the extern’s training level and goals.
Clinical Training Experiences:
- Individual psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults
- Group psychotherapy, including social competence, emotional regulation, and psychoeducational groups
- Family therapy and parent guidance
- Psychological assessment (cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and diagnostic)
- Case conceptualization, treatment planning, and documentation
- Consultation and collaboration with families, schools, and other providers
Supervision & Training Model: Supervision is provided by licensed psychologists with experience in psychotherapy, assessment, and neurodiversity-affirming practice.
- Weekly individual supervision with a licensed psychologist
- Additional group supervision and/or case consultation
- Ongoing feedback focused on clinical skills, diagnostic reasoning, ethics, and professional development
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an APA-accredited or APA-aligned doctoral program in Clinical Psychology
- Foundational coursework in psychotherapy and assessment preferred
- Interest in working with children, adolescents, and families
- Strong professionalism and openness to supervision
